  • The Lower Basilica of St Francis
  • Crypt
  • Friary of St. Francis - Next to the basilica stands the friary Sacro Convento with its imposing walls with 53 Romanesque arches and powerful buttresses supporting the whole complex
  • Porziuncola, also called Portiuncula (in Latin) or Porzioncula, is a small church in the frazione of Santa Maria degli Angeli, situated about 4 kilometers from Assisi, Umbria (central Italy). It is the place from where the Franciscan movement started.

Thursday     We start our day meeting in the reception of the Hotel at 9:00hrs after breakfast and drive to Greccio. Greccio is located about 1 hr 50min away from Assisi. This is where the first crib was created. To celebrate the birth of Christ, St. Francis recreated the manger scene in a cave in the hills above Greccio, Italy. The real miracle was not, as some people say, that the figure of the infant came to life-but that there St. Francis first understood the humility of the Incarnation.

Close to Greccio is a place called Convento Fonte Colombo in Rieti . Only 20 min away by coach. In this place we can see the old monastery of St Francis, Patron Saint of Italy.

After this full day we head back to our hotel where we can have dinner.

Friday     Meeting at 9:00hrs in reception after breakfast we head out to a place called Eremo delle Carceri, which is only 15min away. In the caves on the slope of Monte Subasio just outside the walls of Assisi, St. Francis and his followers established their first home at the Eremo delle Carceri (Carceri Hermitage). He often returned here during his life to pray and contemplate. The word Carceri is from the Latin carceres and means "isolated places" (as well as "prisons").

After seeing this tranquil place, we head out to La Verna, which is about 1hr 30 min drive. This place is a locality on Mount Penna, an isolated mountain of 1,283 m situated in the centre of the Tuscan Apennines, rising above the valley of the Casentino . The place is known especially for its association with Saint Francis of Assisi. It is here that he is said to have received the stigmata, and for the Sanctuary of La Verna which grew up in his honor.

On our way back to Assisi we will stop in one of the largest shopping malls (8000 square metres of shops) situated just outside Assisi where one can stop and shop. Always remember that you will have the Coach at your disposal where you can leave your bags and avoid the hassle of carrying.

After this full day we head back to our hotel where we can have dinner.
